How we handle this for you
Name availability check
We check the proposed name against MCA's existing company database and trademark registry to confirm availability.

Board resolution and shareholder special resolution prepared, adopted and filed.
MGT-14 & INC-24
MGT-14 (for the special resolution) and INC-24 (name change application) filed with MCA.
New Certificate of Incorporation
Once MCA approves the name change, a fresh Certificate of Incorporation is issued. We also guide on updating PAN, TAN, bank accounts and all downstream records.
Frequently asked questions
Is Central Government approval required for all name changes?
Central Government approval (via Regional Director) is required only in specific cases — e.g. where the proposed name includes regulated words like "bank", "insurance" or "national". Most private company name changes are approved by MCA at the ROC level.
Does the CIN change when the name changes?
No. The Company Identification Number (CIN) remains the same. Only the name portion of the CIN display changes; the numeric CIN stays constant.
What documents need to be updated after a name change?
PAN, TAN, GST registration, bank accounts, trade licences, trademark registrations, contracts and letterheads all need to be updated to reflect the new name. SS Marks provides a checklist and guidance for each.
Can a name change be rejected?
MCA can reject a proposed name if it is identical or deceptively similar to an existing company name or registered trademark, or if it uses prohibited words without prior approval. We check for these issues before filing.
How long does a company name change take?
Once all documents are filed, MCA typically approves the name change within 5–10 working days. Inter-state cases or cases requiring Regional Director approval take longer — typically 4–8 weeks.
